Tirefour Castle

Tirefour Castle is a round stone tower on the Isle of Lismore off Scotland's west coast. The structure sits on high ground and its solid construction makes it stand out from the surrounding landscape.

The tower was built during the late Iron Age and people continued to live there for many centuries afterward. Settlement continued from ancient times through the Middle Ages.

The structure contains intramural galleries on its northwestern and eastern sides, demonstrating advanced architectural techniques of ancient Scottish builders.

The site is easiest to reach on foot, with a short uphill walk from the parking area near Balure. The terrain is rocky and uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended for the visit.

A striking feature inside is a stone ledge that runs along the inner walls high above the ground. This architectural element helped people move around and organize different levels inside the tower.
