Littlehampton, Coastal town in West Sussex, England.
Littlehampton sits at the mouth of the River Arun where it flows into the English Channel, spreading along sandy beaches and an active harbor area. The coastline connects residential neighborhoods with promenades, while small boats moor alongside ferries in the calmer river water.
The village appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Hantone and served first as a modest fishing harbor. Expansion of port facilities from the 1730s onward turned the location into an important coastal harbor for trade and goods transport.
The name derives from "Hampton," meaning farm by the river in Old English, with "Little" added later to distinguish it from Southampton. Local families still gather at the beach for traditional fish and chips during summer evenings, maintaining a simple seaside routine.
Southern Rail operates direct connections from the station to central London, Brighton, and Gatwick Airport. The beaches are reachable on foot from the center, while parking areas are available along the waterfront.
The Body Shop maintains its global headquarters here since the company's foundation, shaping the town through office buildings and employees. Each November, thousands of locals march through the streets carrying lit torches in a traditional firework procession first held in 1952.
