Clwyd South, Parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom, 1997 onwards
Clwyd South was a House of Commons constituency in north Wales covering parts of Denbighshire and Wrexham County Borough. The area contained several towns like Chirk, Corwen, and Ruabon alongside villages and countryside with rolling hills and green fields.
The constituency was created in 1997 by combining parts of earlier electoral areas and used boundaries that also applied to Welsh Senedd elections from 1999 onwards. Boundaries were adjusted slightly in 2010 to better reflect local communities.
The name Clwyd comes from Welsh history and refers to an ancient region. In the towns and villages, you can see traditional stone buildings, small local shops, and community centers where neighbors gather and local events happen.
The area is primarily rural with small villages and towns connected by country roads, so planning your movement ahead helps. Bus stops and local services are concentrated in town centers, though direct train access is limited.
Chirk and Corwen are known for their historic bridges that tell stories of old trade and travel routes. Nearby Llangollen is famous for its river, old mills, and annual festivals that attract visitors from around the country.
