Central Criminal Court, Courthouse in London

The Old Bailey, known formally as the Central Criminal Court, is a court in London and one of a number of buildings housing the Crown Court.

It was named after the street on which it stands, which follows the line of the ancient fortified wall (or 'bailey') of the city, dating back to Roman times.

The Old Bailey has been part of many famous trials in history, including those of William Penn, Oscar Wilde, and the infamous serial killer Dr. Crippen.

Public galleries are open for viewing trials in session, providing a unique insight into the British judicial system.

The Old Bailey's iconic statue of Lady Justice, holding a sword and scales, is one of the common symbols of the law.
