Kenilworth Road, Football stadium in Bury Park, Luton, England
Kenilworth Road is a football stadium in the Bury Park area of Luton, England, enclosed by residential houses. The four covered stands hold 10,356 spectators in a tightly built neighborhood setting.
Luton Town Football Club moved here in 1905 after the landlord sold their former Dunstable Road ground for housing. The stands were gradually expanded and covered over the decades, fitting the structure deeper into the surrounding neighborhood.
The ground takes its name from a nearby street, and the narrow lanes around the site still show the working neighborhood structure of the town. On match days, pubs and street corners fill with supporters moving through the residential area toward the entrances.
Visitors reach the different stands through several entrances spread between residential streets and houses. Supporters heading to the away section walk through narrow passages and past neighboring gardens, which can lead to delays when crowds are heavy.
Some houses back directly onto the stand walls, allowing residents to watch football from their gardens or upper floors. Before older structures were demolished, cottages even stood inside the corner areas of the ground.
