Belmont, Administrative area in Sutton, United Kingdom
Belmont is a residential area in the southern part of the London Borough of Sutton, located near the foothills of the North Downs. It developed around the railway station and includes housing, local shops, and community facilities spread across quiet streets.
The area received its name in 1875 when the railway station was renamed from California Station to prevent postal delivery confusion. This change marked a turning point in establishing the location as a distinct community.
St John's Church on Queens Road serves both Anglican and Methodist congregations, standing near the end of Station Road commercial street.
The area is well served by rail, with Belmont Station providing connections to central London and other parts of the region. Walking through the neighborhood is straightforward, with shops, cafes, and amenities concentrated along the main roads.
Two Local Nature Reserves, Cuddington Meadows and Belmont Pastures, preserve different ecosystems within the developed area. These protected spaces offer visitors a chance to explore green spaces and local wildlife amid the urban surroundings.
