Hyde, Industrial town in Tameside, England
Located 6 miles east of Manchester city center, Hyde extends along the Ashton Canal with Victorian buildings and residential neighborhoods.
The settlement evolved from a small cluster of houses called Red Pump Street in 1801 to a major textile manufacturing center with 40 cotton mills.
The town features Hyde Park with its bandstand, hosts local markets, and maintains several sports facilities including Hyde United Football Club grounds.
Northern Trains and Stagecoach Manchester buses connect Hyde to Manchester Piccadilly through six railway stations across the municipality.
Hyde derives its name from the medieval land measurement term 'Hide', which represented 120 acres needed to sustain one peasant family.
