Plover Scar Lighthouse, Maritime beacon at Lune estuary entrance in Lancashire, England
The octagonal stone tower with black lantern rises 8 meters above the rocky outcrop at the edge of the deep water channel into the estuary.
The lighthouse, constructed in 1847, operated with paraffin lamps mounted in parabolic reflectors before transitioning to electric lamps in the early 1950s.
The Raby family maintained both the high and low lights for nearly a century until 1945, when the Parkinson family assumed responsibility for operations.
Visitors can reach the lighthouse base during low tide, with essential tide time verification available through the official marine information services.
In 2016, the structure required extensive restoration after a commercial vessel collision, involving the careful numbering and reuse of over 200 stone blocks.
