Scenic Railway, Wooden roller coaster at Dreamland Margate, England
The Scenic Railway forms a wooden track system with dedicated brakemen controlling the speed of cars through a series of rises and drops.
The roller coaster first opened its gates in 1920 and carried over one million passengers during its initial operating season in 1921.
The Grade II* listed structure represents British coastal entertainment traditions and remains a central feature of Thanet's recreational landscape.
The roller coaster requires daily inspections by carpenters who examine 320 tonnes of timber framework to maintain safety standards.
The restoration process in 2015 incorporated original design specifications from Sir John Henry Iles while implementing modern safety features.
