Falls of Shin, Waterfall and visitor center in Highland, Scotland.
Falls of Shin is a waterfall on the River Shin near Bonar Bridge, forming a natural obstacle in the water. The site includes a visitor center with facilities, a restaurant, and viewing areas to observe the river.
The original visitor center was destroyed by fire in 2013 and replaced by a new facility that opened in 2017. This reconstruction changed how the site serves visitors and manages access to the waterfall.
The visitor center's restaurant serves Scottish dishes made with ingredients sourced from nearby farms and producers. Travelers can taste the local food traditions of the Highlands while visiting.
The site is best visited from May through September when the salmon migration is active and viewing platforms are fully open. A large free parking area with charging stations for electric vehicles makes access convenient.
From the viewing platform, visitors can watch Atlantic salmon repeatedly attempting to leap upstream against the current. These jumping attempts are most dramatic during the peak migration season.
