Muckle Flugga Lighthouse, Lighthouse on the rocky stack of Muckle Flugga, Shetland Islands, United Kingdom.

The cylindrical masonry structure rises 20 meters above the northernmost point of the British Isles, featuring a white light that flashes every 20 seconds.

Brothers Thomas and David Stevenson constructed the lighthouse in 1854 to protect naval vessels during the Crimean War, with the first permanent light activated in 1858.

The Norse name Muckle Flugga translates to large steep-sided island, reflecting the Nordic heritage of the Shetland archipelago.

Visitors can view the lighthouse from the Hermaness National Nature Reserve on Unst, which maintains observation points along the coastal cliffs.

The lighthouse contains 103 steps to the top and broadcasts its warning beam across a range of 22 nautical miles in the North Atlantic waters.
