Holmfirth, Market town in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Holmfirth is a market town in Holme Valley, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. It sits at the confluence of the River Holme and Ribble, surrounded by stone cottages on the eastern slopes of the Pennines.
The settlement emerged in the 13th century around a corn mill and a bridge over the river. In the 16th century it grew through cloth trade and stone quarries.
The town served as the filming location for the BBC series Last of the Summer Wine from 1973 to 2010. Visitors recognize several shops and streets that appeared in the show.
Regular bus routes connect the town to Huddersfield, about 6 miles (10 km) north. The streets climb uphill, so visitors should wear comfortable shoes.
The Picturedrome opened in 1912 as a cinema and now hosts live music. The hall still features original wooden seating and stage elements from its founding era.
