Hoxne treasure, Roman treasure hoard in Suffolk, England
The collection contains 14,865 Roman coins, 200 silver tableware items, and various gold jewelry pieces stored in wooden containers within an oak chest.
Eric Lawes discovered the hoard in November 1992 while searching for a lost hammer with a metal detector in a Suffolk farm field.
The hoard represents the accumulation of wealth by an affluent Roman-British family during the final years of Roman rule in Britain.
The British Museum exhibits the artifacts in Room 49, where visitors can examine gold chains, silver pepper pots, and other Roman objects.
The collection includes silver spoons inscribed with Christian symbols and names, indicating the religious practices of wealthy Romans in fifth-century Britain.
