Brahan Castle, Medieval castle in Highland, Scotland
Brahan Castle was a large mansion in the Scottish Highlands that grew and changed over two centuries through various additions and rebuilds. Today only fragments of stone walls remain from the northern section of the structure, showing traces of its former size and complexity.
The castle was founded in 1611 and served as a residence for the Seaforth family for over 300 years in the Highlands. Major reconstructions took place in the 1800s, and the property remained occupied until the mid-twentieth century.
The site was deeply connected to the Seaforth clan, an important Scottish noble family whose presence shaped the region for generations. Local people saw it as a center of power and authority that influenced life across the surrounding lands.
The site is now accessible only as a ruin, with just stone walls remaining from the original building. Visitors should explore the grounds carefully and watch for uneven terrain and deteriorating structures.
The most precious remains from the original structure were not left in place but eventually moved to other locations. Heraldic panels and other decorative elements can now be found scattered in private collections and other Scottish houses, spreading the story of the place beyond the ruins.
