University of Leicester Botanic Garden, Botanical garden in Oadby, United Kingdom.
The University of Leicester Botanic Garden is a 16-acre site featuring formal Edwardian-style layouts, wooded sections, and specialized greenhouses. The collections include plants from many different climates and growing regions around the world.
The garden was founded in 1921 with backing from the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society and moved to its current Oadby location in 1947. This relocation allowed the collection to expand and be redesigned for better organization.
Twelve permanent outdoor sculptures are placed throughout the garden, inviting visitors to notice how art and plants create meaning together as they walk the paths.
The gardens are open daily with hours that change between seasons, and the greenhouses have limited weekday-only access. Check opening times before your visit and allow time to explore both the outdoor areas and the indoor plant collections.
Four early 1900s houses on the grounds - Beaumont, Southmeade, The Knoll, and Hastings - were linked together to create the current connected botanical space. These historic buildings now shape the layout and character of what visitors see today.
