Kensington is a constituency for the House of Commons covering central and southern parts of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The electoral district includes residential areas such as Notting Hill and South Kensington, along with sections of the Kensington High Street shopping area.
The constituency was established in 2010 after the previous joint Kensington and Chelsea seat was divided. The change separated the two areas following more than a decade of shared representation in Parliament.
The electoral area contains numerous museums, including the Science Museum and Natural History Museum, reflecting the educational heritage of the district.
The constituency office is usually located near main roads and accessible by public transport. Voters can contact their elected representatives during opening hours or through electronic channels for inquiries and appointments.
In 2017, Labour candidate Emma Dent Coad won the seat by just 20 votes. This razor-thin margin marked the first time in decades that the traditionally Conservative area elected a Labour representative.
