The Halifax Gibbet was a wooden structure used for public execution by decapitation.
Its use is recorded as far back as the 13th century in the town of Halifax.
An early form of the guillotine, it became part of local tradition and deterrence against crime.
Not operational today, only a replica exists at the original site for educational purposes.
It is one of the earliest guillotine-like execution devices predating the French Guillotine.
