Fineshade Wood, Ancient woodland in Duddington-with-Fineshade, England
Fineshade Wood is a woodland combining broadleaf and conifer trees across extensive grounds. The site provides natural habitats for red kites, coal tits, and spotted woodpeckers throughout its varied landscape.
The woodland has existed continuously since around 1600, preserving medieval boundary banks and old coppice structures. Its undisturbed soil composition reflects the character of ancient forest ecosystems.
The Forestry Commission manages this natural space, offering designated trails for walking, cycling, and nature observation activities throughout the woodland environment.
The woodland sits between Stamford and Corby near the A43 with free parking and accessible facilities throughout. Bicycle rentals and a café offering homemade food are available on site.
Northern woodland sections went unrecognized in earlier records before specialist assessment revealed their ancient status. These areas were later added to the Ancient Woodland Inventory, expanding the known extent of the forest.
