Founded in 1959, the museum stands upon a Norman motte where Hamelin de Ballon constructed the original castle structure in 1087.
The exhibits present local history through permanent collections, including a Victorian Welsh kitchen and a reconstructed World War II air raid shelter.
Visitors can access the museum daily from 11 AM to 4 PM except Wednesdays, with free admission and wheelchair assistance available upon request.
The museum building, dating from 1819, incorporates sections of the medieval castle where Welsh nobles were murdered during a Christmas feast in 1175.
