25 Park Lane, Private residence in City of Westminster, England.
25 Park Lane is a four-story private residence in City of Westminster featuring a marble staircase, winter garden, and ballroom decorated with wall panels. The house also contains a conservatory and includes a recessed gallery lined with oyster-colored mirror glass.
The house was constructed between 1895 and 1896 by architects T. H. Smith and C. E. Sayer for mining entrepreneur Barney Barnato. It later became the London residence of Sir Philip Sassoon, who undertook major interior renovations.
The ballroom once displayed the Mediterranean-themed artwork 'Caravans of the East' by Jose Maria Sert, with its panels now housed in Barcelona's Museum of Modern Art. This artwork shaped the visual identity of the interior for decades.
The residence is centrally located in London with good access to public transportation and is within walking distance of several tube stations. As a private home, the exterior can be viewed from the street, but the interior is not open to the public.
Architect Philip Tilden redesigned the interior with a recessed gallery whose walls are lined with oyster-colored mirror glass. This unusual solution creates optical effects that make spaces feel larger than they actually are.
