The timber-framed building at 46 High Street features two gables, decorative paneling, and carved figures on its black-and-white exterior structure.
Following the devastating fire of 1583, Thomas Churche commissioned this residence in 1584 for £120, partially funded through the town reconstruction program.
The building represents the architectural preferences of wealthy Nantwich merchants during the Elizabethan period, when salt trade brought prosperity to the region.
The structure currently houses a bookshop and coffee establishment, providing visitors an opportunity to experience the interior of this historical building.
Archaeological excavations revealed the building stands on unconsolidated ground, with artifacts including embroidered fabric and leather shoe laces found beneath the structure.
