Ashley Hall, Country house in Ashley, England
Ashley Hall is a three-story building standing north of Ashley village with architectural elements spanning from the 16th through the 19th century. The property includes several Grade II listed structures such as gate piers, a carriage house, kitchen garden walls, and a stable block.
In 1715, Cheshire gentlemen gathered at the hall to decide whether to support the Stuarts or the Hanoverians, ultimately choosing the latter. This meeting became a pivotal moment for the region's political direction.
The portraits of Cheshire nobles created after the 1715 gathering show how important the hall was to local society, and these paintings are now displayed at Tatton Hall. They offer a glimpse into the region's ruling families of that time.
The location lies north of Ashley village and is surrounded by the various protected structures that can be explored when visiting. It is helpful to allow time to view all elements of the property during your visit.
The hall was the setting for a secret gathering where local leaders made a significant national decision that shaped British history. This historical episode is less remembered today, though it held great importance at the time.
