Admiral Hood Monument, Naval monument in Butleigh, England
The Admiral Hood Monument stands 110 feet tall as a Tuscan column on a square plinth, featuring stone carvings of Napoleonic-era warships at its summit.
Built in 1831, architect Henry Goodridge designed this Grade II* listed structure to honor Sir Samuel Hood, who commanded HMS Zealous at the Battle of Nile.
The monument's inscriptions, composed by Sir James Mackintosh, detail Samuel Hood's achievements and contributions during his service in the British Royal Navy.
Visitors can reach the monument through a public footpath from Collard Hill, following the ridge of the Polden Hills through woodland areas.
The structure was originally connected to the Hood family residence by a mile-long avenue of cedar trees, creating a ceremonial approach to the memorial.
