Arighi Bianchi, Furniture store and Grade II* listed building in Macclesfield, England
Arighi Bianchi is a four-story Grade II* listed building featuring a cast iron and glass storefront with Italianate-style windows in Macclesfield. The structure houses retail space alongside Caffe AB, which serves breakfast, seasonal dishes, and afternoon meals to visitors and shoppers.
The furniture business was founded in 1854 by two Italian immigrant entrepreneurs who established themselves in Macclesfield. The Italianate architectural details of the building reflect the heritage and background of its founders.
The store supplied furniture to royal residences and held appointments from the royal household, making it a furniture supplier of national standing. This royal connection brought prestige and customers from across England seeking quality furnishings.
The building is easily accessible and located near the railway station, making it convenient to visit. The café occupies upper levels and provides a comfortable spot to rest and have a meal while exploring the interior.
The building narrowly escaped demolition in the 1970s when preservationists and architectural advocates successfully campaigned to save it. This rescue made it a notable example of Victorian architecture being protected for future generations.
