Beltwood House, Grade II listed building in London Borough of Southwark, England
Beltwood House is a three-story Grade II listed building in Southwark with many rooms spread across spacious interior areas. The property is surrounded by mature woodland that receives formal protection.
A London solicitor named Edward Saxton commissioned the house in 1851 and lived there for more than 60 years. The building later underwent several changes in use and was converted into a children's facility in the mid-20th century.
The property transformed from a private residence into a children's hospital in 1949, later becoming a dental student residence and YWCA hostel.
As a protected historic building, any structural changes require special authorization to preserve its character. Visitors and residents should expect certain restrictions on alterations.
Beneath the property runs an active railway tunnel operated by the London Chatham and Dover Railway Company that has been in use since 1864. This hidden infrastructure is rarely known to visitors.
