Benenden School, Independent boarding school in Kent, England
Benenden School is a girls' boarding school in the county of Kent, roughly one hour southeast of London. The estate spreads across rolling lawns and woodland areas connected by paved pathways and unpaved tracks.
Three teachers founded the boarding school in 1923 and moved it to the manor house Hemsted House one year later. During the Second World War, the main building served as a military hospital while lessons continued on the Cornish coast.
Students wear a school uniform that blends traditional elements with practical components for daily activities. In the evenings, many gather in the common rooms of the various boarding houses scattered across the grounds.
Access is by appointment only, as the site remains an active school campus. The nearest train station is in Staplehurst, from where regular bus connections run to the grounds.
The school maintains its own observatory with a telescope that students use for astronomical observations. The main building also houses a small chapel from the 17th century, regularly used for gatherings.
