Beeston Hill Y Station, Survey marker and wartime radio interception post remains in Sheringham, England

Beeston Hill Y Station is the remains of a wartime radio interception post on top of Beeston Hill near Sheringham, in Norfolk, England. What survives today is a concrete base with an octagonal shape and traces of a protective wall around it.

The post was built before the Second World War and served as one of several listening stations set up along the English coast to intercept German radio signals. After the war ended, the structure was largely dismantled, leaving only the concrete base behind.

The site is accessible on foot via footpaths that lead up Beeston Hill from Sheringham, and no special equipment is needed for the walk. An information board on the hill explains the history of the post, so the visit makes sense even without prior knowledge.

Most of the people who worked at the station were women who spoke German and listened in on radio chatter from German E-boats passing along the coast. Many of them signed the Official Secrets Act and said nothing about their work for decades.
