Borough Briggs, Football stadium in Elgin, Scotland.
Borough Briggs is a football stadium in Elgin, Moray, in northern Scotland, home to Elgin City F.C. and set on a grass pitch. The ground has a covered main stand with seating on one side and open standing areas along the other sides.
The ground opened in August 1921, when Elgin City played their first Highland League match there and won. It has served as the club's home ever since, with a notable turning point when Elgin City joined the Scottish Football League in 2000.
Borough Briggs is one of the few grounds in Scotland that still has traditional standing terraces of the kind once common across British football. Attending a match here feels direct and uncomplicated, with none of the corporate extras found at larger venues.
The ground sits close to Elgin town centre and is easy to reach on foot. On rainy days the grass pitch can leave the surroundings muddy, so sturdy footwear is a good idea, especially for autumn and winter matches.
The seats in the main stand were taken from Newcastle United's St James' Park and brought to Elgin when the club was promoted to the Scottish Football League in 2000. Visitors watching a match there are sitting in the same seats that once held Premier League crowds at one of England's largest stadiums.
