Blackpool Sands, Private beach in South Devon, United Kingdom.
Blackpool Sands is a private beach on the South Devon coast, set in a crescent-shaped bay surrounded by wooded cliffs. On-site facilities include changing rooms, showers, a restaurant, and seasonal lifeguard cover.
The beach received its first Blue Flag award in the early 1990s, recognising its water quality and safety standards. That recognition helped establish it as one of the better-maintained bathing spots along the Devon coast.
The beach is popular with people who kayak and paddleboard in the sheltered bay. Families tend to return year after year, drawn by the calm water and the feeling of being tucked away from busier stretches of coast.
The beach is reached by a winding coastal road, and arriving by car is the most straightforward option since bus stops are a walk away. Lifeguards operate seasonally, so a visit in spring or summer gives the safest conditions for swimming.
Despite its name, the beach is made up mostly of pebbles rather than sand. Dedicated sand pits have been set up on site so that younger visitors still have a place to dig and play.
