Blackshore Mill

Blackshore Mill is a three-story windpump in Reydon featuring a boat-shaped cap and four patent sails mounted on cast-iron machinery. The structure stands as a preserved example of water management technology from the late 1800s.

Robert Martin, a millwright from Beccles, built the mill in 1890, but the sails were lost after just four years when a windshaft broke. This early damage ended its working life almost as soon as it had begun.

The mill shows how people in this area managed water in the surrounding marshlands. Visitors can see how the technology worked and what role it played in community life at the time.

The structure is legally protected, which means repairs and changes follow specific heritage rules. Visitors should check local conditions and access arrangements before planning a visit.
