Blairs College, Catholic history museum in Maryculter, Scotland
Blairs College is a museum in a former priest training seminary beside the River Dee, displaying religious objects and historical documents. The stone buildings of the site preserve an extensive collection connected to Scottish Catholic history.
The seminary was founded in 1829 by uniting three existing educational institutions into a new priest training center. A major expansion with new buildings followed in the late 19th century.
The collection displays items connected to Scottish Catholic history and the Jacobite era. Visitors see letters and objects that reveal how people practiced their faith through the centuries.
The museum is open on weekends from April through September, but visits outside these times are possible by prior arrangement. It is best to check visiting conditions before planning a trip.
The chapel on site was built from designs by Robert Curran and ranks among the finest examples of Catholic architecture from its era in Scotland. The building has kept its original design and remains a rare testament to this period.
