Boston Guildhall

Boston Guildhall is a local museum in the town of Boston built with red brick and rubble core using medieval construction methods. The building houses archaeological finds and historical objects from various periods.

The merchant guild of St Mary was founded in 1260 and built this guildhall in 1390 as its headquarters. During the 14th and 15th centuries the guild accumulated considerable wealth through donations and contributions from its wealthy members.

This building served as the heart of guild activities for centuries and shows the power held by the merchants who controlled Boston. You can see today how these rooms were used for meetings and conducting business.

The museum is open on specific weekdays during morning hours only. It is best to arrive early in the day to allow adequate time for exploring the rooms and exhibits.

In 1607 officials detained the Pilgrim Fathers here, including William Brewster, after they attempted to leave for Holland without royal permission. This dramatic moment captures the building's role in a significant historical event.
