Braxted Park, Queen Anne country house in Great Braxted, England.
Braxted Park is a red brick country house in Great Braxted, Essex, England, reached by a long drive through open parkland. The grounds also hold two lakes, a Victorian school building, an Orangery, and a historic church.
The land was recorded as a deer park in 1342 and changed hands several times before Thomas Darcy took it over in the 17th century. The Du Cane family later took ownership and expanded the estate through their commercial wealth.
The Du Cane family left a mark on the estate that visitors can still read in the garden layout and the variety of buildings on the grounds. The Orangery in particular reflects the tastes that wealthy landowners brought to their properties in earlier centuries.
The estate is best explored on foot, as the drive, lakesides, and park paths all reward a slow walk. Visitors should allow plenty of time since the grounds are large and spread across different areas.
All Saints' Church on the grounds dates to around 1115, making it roughly 600 years older than the main house. It is one of the few surviving Norman churches in Essex still standing on private land.
