Brent Pelham Windmill is an eight-sided structure with a single-storey brick base supporting a two-storey smock tower. The tower is covered with corrugated iron and vertical wooden weatherboarding, giving it a solid, practical appearance that reflects its working past.
The mill was built in 1826 and operated as a working mill until around 1890, when grain milling ceased. Several millers ran the operation during its active years, each contributing to its daily work and maintenance.
The structure embodied agricultural traditions in Hertfordshire, where grain milling was central to local food production. Walking around it, you can sense how such buildings shaped rural life and work in the region.
The mill stands clearly visible in the Brent Pelham landscape and is easy to spot from its distinctive shape. Keep in mind that it is a protected building, so viewing is from the exterior only.
