Pepys Library, Historic private library at Magdalene College, Cambridge, United Kingdom

The Pepys Library contains over 3000 volumes housed in original oak bookcases on the first floor of the Pepys Building at Magdalene College.

Samuel Pepys bequeathed his entire collection to Magdalene College in 1703, specifying strict preservation rules that continue to this day.

The collection includes medieval manuscripts, naval records, Sir Francis Drake's almanac, and the original bound manuscripts of Pepys's personal diary.

Researchers need to contact the library beforehand to access specific items, and photography within the library requires special permission.

Following Pepys's instructions, books remain arranged by size in their original positions, with no additions permitted to the collection since 1703.
