Chalton Windmill, Historic windmill in Chalton, England.

Chalton Windmill is a four-storey tower mill on Windmill Hill in Hampshire, fitted with patent sails on a cast-iron shaft. The building now serves as residential space while keeping its original appearance and Grade II listed status intact.

A mill has occupied this location since at least 1289, though the present structure was built in the early nineteenth century. This continuity shows how vital milling remained to the area across generations.

The mill shows how important such structures were to rural communities and how local life once depended on grain processing. Its prominent position on the hill reflects its former role as a focal point for the surrounding area.

The mill sits on a hill and is clearly visible from outside, though it is now private residential space not open to visitors. The exterior view alone provides a good sense of its architectural form and the reasons it earned protected status.

Historical maps spanning from 1607 to 1675 consistently show a mill at this exact location across all four centuries. This rare cartographic record demonstrates the site's stability and long-standing importance to the area.
