Celtic Nation F.C., football club
Celtic Nation F.C. was a football club in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, that existed from 2004 to 2015 and was originally founded as Gillford Park Spartans. The club played at Gillford Park, a modest stadium with around 4,000 spectator places, and wore green and white hooped shirts after changing its name and identity in 2012.
The club was founded in 2004 as Gillford Park Spartans and played in local leagues before winning its first divisional title in 2006. After Scottish businessman Frank Lynch took over in 2012 and rebranded the team as Celtic Nation, the club ultimately folded in 2015 when Lynch withdrew his financial backing.
The name Celtic Nation reflected the club's connection to Scottish and Irish communities in the area. The green and white hooped shirts with a shamrock and Celtic cross on the crest showed this identity and drew supporters who felt connected to those heritage roots.
The stadium was located in Carlisle and was accessible to spectators from the surrounding area. After the club closed in 2015, the ground was later taken over and used by Carlisle City.
The team won the Cumberland Senior Cup in 2014 by beating Aspatria, marking a bright moment before financial troubles led to collapse. This cup triumph remained the club's final significant achievement before it closed its doors a year later.
