Castlemilk, Residential district in south Glasgow, Scotland.
Castlemilk is a residential district in south Glasgow with green spaces scattered among housing clusters. The area includes Castlemilk Park and Woodlands, where remnants of the former estate landscape remain visible today.
Glasgow Corporation bought the Castlemilk Estate in 1937 and transformed it into a residential area during the 1950s. This conversion was part of a major housing development program to house the growing city population.
The restored 1794 stables block, designed by David Hamilton, now serves the community with local housing offices, community facilities, and a nursery.
The district has eight primary schools, three secondary schools, and shopping facilities spread throughout the area. Good public transportation connections link this part of the city to Glasgow city center.
A stone bridge from 1833 and a landscaped fish pond remain from the original estate grounds. These features mark where the drive to the demolished Castlemilk House once stood.
