Church of St. Mary the Virgin and All Souls, Bulwell, Gothic parish church in Bulwell, England
The Church of St Mary the Virgin and All Souls is a Gothic parish church in Bulwell, Nottingham, built in the Gothic Revival style with ornate stonework and large windows. Its prominent bell tower contains eight bells cast between 1860 and 1920 by the renowned bellfounder John Taylor and Company.
This church was rebuilt in 1849 by architect Henry Isaac Stevens on foundations dating back to the 12th century, adopting the Gothic Revival style for its design. The building underwent significant expansions during the 20th century, including the addition of a new chancel in 1900 and a north chapel in 1946.
The church serves as a community gathering place where traditional Anglican services take place with robed choirs and clergy in formal vestments. These ceremonial practices shape how visitors experience the space during worship.
The church is easily reached by public transport including nearby tram stops and train stations, with parking available at the top of the drive. Visitors should plan their visit during services or published opening times to see the interior.
The bells were cast by John Taylor and Company, a bellfounder famous for producing bells with exceptional tonal qualities that have rung across generations. This craftsmanship legacy makes the sound of this bell tower distinctive within the local landscape.
