William Brewer initiated the reconstruction of the church in 1203, incorporating Early English Gothic elements that formed the foundation of the current structure.
The interior contains a rare painting of the Descent from the Cross, attributed to either Spanish painter Murillo or Italian artist Carracci.
The church underwent a £1 million restoration in 2016, introducing new facilities while preserving historical elements such as the hammerbeam roof and stone flooring.
Lightning struck the church spire in 1814, necessitating extensive repairs and leading to modifications that influenced its current architectural appearance.
