Crazy Daisy Nightclub, Dance club in Sheffield, England
Crazy Daisy Nightclub is a dance venue in the basement of a 1920s art deco building at the corner of York Street and High Street in Sheffield. A steep staircase leads down from street level to a dance floor divided by several supporting columns.
The venue opened in 1973 as The Beer Keller before becoming a nightclub. It grew into a popular dance spot through the 1980s and eventually closed its doors.
In October 1980, Philip Oakey of The Human League spotted two young women dancing here: Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall. He approached them that same night, and both soon joined the band.
Getting in requires descending a steep staircase, and the space can feel narrow around the columns. People with mobility concerns should keep this in mind before visiting.
In the early 1970s, the club held regular lunchtime disco sessions while it was still called The Beer Keller. These daytime events were uncommon for the time and drew a regular crowd well before the evening programme began.
