Colworth House, Grade II* listed manor estate in Sharnbrook, England

Colworth House is an 18th-century mansion on the edge of Sharnbrook with multiple laboratory buildings surrounding a central grassed area on its grounds. The estate operates today as a science park housing research facilities and small scientific companies across its extensive land.

Mark Antonie initiated construction of the current structure in 1715, laying the foundation for what would become a major research center generations later. The shift from private residence to a significant scientific facility fundamentally shaped the property over the following centuries.

The house began as a family residence and transformed into a major research hub that draws hundreds of scientists to work within its grounds. Today visitors can see how the original buildings sit alongside modern laboratory facilities, reflecting this shift in purpose.

The site operates as a science park accessible to visitors, with research facilities and various companies present throughout the grounds. Note that some areas may have restricted access since active laboratory operations continue to run on the property.

Archaeological digs on the grounds uncovered a Roman villa and farm, which were documented in a British television program about historical excavations. These findings reveal that the land was inhabited in ancient times, long before the current mansion was built.
