Derby Cluniac Priory, Cluniac priory in City of Derby, England
The monastery stood near Markeaton Brook on the north side of St James's Street, serving as a religious center for the surrounding communities.
Founded between 1072 and 1076, the priory received its initial lands from Waltheof, Earl of Northumbria, who donated a chapel dedicated to St James.
The priory functioned as both a religious institution and a hospital, providing care for poor and sick residents under recognition from King Henry III.
Archaeological excavations at the site uncovered artifacts including a large key and human remains, though no visible structures remain today.
In 1335, a fire destroyed the priory church and hospital, leading to financial difficulties that affected the institution through the 14th century.
