Dock Road Edwardian Pumping Station
Dock Road Edwardian Pumping Station, Grade II listed sewerage pumping station in Northwich, England.
Dock Road Edwardian Pumping Station is a sewerage facility from the early 1900s featuring substantial industrial architecture. It houses original Crossley gas engines and Haywood Tyler pumps that processed the city's wastewater.
Built in 1913, the pumping station solved sewage discharge problems into the River Weaver. It redirected waste to the Wallerscote Works treatment facility instead.
The station represents a major shift toward organized waste management in public health. Visitors can observe how this infrastructure changed daily life in the community.
The visit shows both the original machinery and modern upgrades from the 1970s. Plan time to understand the mechanical systems and how the facility evolved.
Modern electric pumps added in the 1970s were four times more powerful than the original equipment. This shows how the infrastructure adapted to the city's growing needs.
