Drapers' Gardens, Modern skyscraper in City of London, United Kingdom.
Drapers' Gardens is a modern office tower in the City of London located at the intersection of Throgmorton Avenue and Copthall Avenue. The building contains 30 floors of office space along with rooftop terraces and a ground-level pocket park that serves the surrounding area.
The original structure was designed by architect Richard Seifert in 1967 and remained the tallest demolished building in the United Kingdom until its removal in 2007. The replacement building was completed in 2009 on this long-used site.
The site belongs to the Drapers' Company, which has maintained a connection to this location since 1544 when it served as a market garden. The pocket park and terraces today reflect this heritage of providing green space for the community.
The building has multiple access points and open green areas that give visitors a sense of the site. The rooftop terraces and pocket park offer places to rest and provide views across the surrounding financial district.
Archaeological excavations during construction uncovered Roman artifacts from the 1st to 5th centuries, showing that the site has been occupied since ancient times. These findings reveal how this location has experienced continuous development for more than a millennium and a half.
