Drayton Reservoir, lake in the United Kingdom
Drayton Reservoir is a water storage reservoir near Daventry, managed by Canal and River Trust, that feeds into the nearby Grand Union Canal to help maintain its water levels. Wooden walkways run along the banks, and several fishing platforms give direct access to the water's edge.
The reservoir was built to supply water to the Grand Union Canal and has been part of the canal network for many decades. Its management passed from British Waterways to Canal and River Trust, which continues to maintain it today.
The reservoir draws anglers from across the region, who come regularly to fish from the wooden platforms along the banks. On quieter days, walkers also use the paths around the water, making it a place shared between different kinds of visitors.
The site is reached from the A361, where there is limited parking near the dam wall. The area borders residential streets, so visitors are expected to keep noise to a minimum throughout their stay.
Carp were introduced into the reservoir in the early 1990s and have grown steadily over the years, with some fish now reaching very large sizes. The record catch recorded here stands at over 35 pounds (around 16 kg), which brings serious anglers from far away.
