Dollar Academy

Dollar Academy is an independent school located in Dollar, Scotland, set at the foot of the Ochil Hills and serving around 1,200 students. The campus consists of Category A listed buildings alongside modern extensions that house classrooms, science labs, and sports facilities.

The institution opened in 1818 following a bequest from Captain John McNabb, who left his fortune to establish education for underprivileged children in Dollar parish. The school began as a charitable foundation and later developed into a full independent school serving a wider community.

The school runs two pipe bands that compete regularly in national competitions, keeping traditional Scottish music alive within the student community. The senior band has claimed several titles at world championships, representing the local musical tradition at the highest level.

The campus sits centrally in the village and is easily reached on foot from most parts of Dollar. The Westwater Building, added in 2016, houses modern language facilities and additional teaching spaces used during school terms.

Senior students wear special badges and blazer piping as recognition for their achievements in sports and cultural activities. This distinction appears through colored trim on their jackets and individually designed pins that are visible during the school day.
