Eggleston Hall, Grade II* listed country house in Eggleston, County Durham, GB.
Eggleston Hall is a country house built in 1827 with a two-storey design and classical proportions. The building features a recessed central section connected by a Doric order colonnade with projecting end bays that frame the composition.
The estate was confiscated in 1569 following a failed rebellion and subsequently passed through several owners over the centuries. During the 1970s and 1980s it served a different purpose before returning to private use.
The hall transformed from a private residence to a finishing school between 1972 and 1991, educating young women in social etiquette and refinement.
The main building is private, but the walled gardens are open to visitors for peaceful exploration and walking. A café located in the former coach house provides a place to rest and enjoy refreshments while taking in the surroundings.
The property served as the filming location for the ITV series 'Ladette to Lady', where young women underwent social transformation and etiquette training. The television program introduced the halls as a setting for this type of educational experience to a wider audience.
