Elin's Tower, Grade II listed observation tower in Trearddur, United Kingdom
Elin's Tower is a stone Victorian tower in Trearddur with crenellated parapets, large windows, and a height of about 28 meters (90 feet). The structure uses local masonry and now houses a visitor center with information about the local wildlife and coast.
The tower was built between 1820 and 1850 for the Stanley family of Penrhos and was named after Elin, the Welsh wife of politician William Owen Stanley. It served as a coastal lookout during the World Wars before later becoming a nature conservation center.
The tower once served as a lookout for the coast and today draws visitors who come to learn about the wildlife in the surrounding area. Its rooms tell the story of how people have watched over this place.
The tower is easily accessible to visitors with information materials, a shop, and a cafe on site. It is best to visit during daylight hours to appreciate the views and enjoy the natural surroundings fully.
From the top you can see South Stack lighthouse and watch seabirds in their natural habitat. Many visitors do not realize the tower also served as a military observation post during wartime.
