Fairy Falls, Natural cascade in Trefriw, Wales
Fairy Falls is a waterfall complex near Trefriw in Wales that flows down over several angled rock faces. The water drops through these different levels and then joins the River Crafnant close to local woolen mills.
This waterfall formation was shaped during the last ice age when glaciers carved through the Conwy Valley and reshaped the landscape. The location later became known through Victorian-era stories that are reflected in the name given to it.
The name comes from Victorian-era stories in which local people reported seeing fairy-like beings at this location. Such local tales continue to shape how visitors think of this waterfall today.
The location can be reached via several footpaths, including Route 4 of the Trefriw Trails, which begins at the village shop and leads to the falls. Good footwear is recommended as the paths can be wet and slippery, especially after rainfall.
Despite a diversion system for a nearby hydroelectric power station, the waterfall maintains strong water flow throughout the year. This means visitors can expect an impressive water display regardless of the season.
